Justin Akers Chacon

Justin is a long-time active socialist based in San Diego and has been heavily involved in the fight for the rights of undocumented workers in the US. He is the author of No One Is Illegal: Fighting Racism and State Violence on the U.S.-Mexico Border and Radicals in the Barrio: Magonistas, Socialists, Wobblies, and Communists in the Mexican-American Working Class. Justin will be speaking on Sunday at the session The US Elections: A choice between two evils

Gary Foley

Gary Foley is a Gumbainggir activist, academic, writer and actor. He is best known for his role in establishing the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra in 1972 and for establishing an Aboriginal Legal Service in Redfern in the 1970s. He will be speaking on the Black Power movement in Australia.

April Holcombe

April is a transgender socialist and activist for LGBTI rights in the Community Action for Rainbow Rights. She was a prominent activist in the campaign for marriage equality. April recently wrote an extended review of Laura Miles' book on Transgender Resistance for the Marxist Left Review. She will be speaking on Transphobia and capitalism: A Marxist analysis.

Joel Geier

Joel Geier is a longtime revolutionary socialist from the United States. Active in revolutionary politics since the 1960s, Joel has been involved in some of the defining moments of socialist politics in the US, including the Berkeley Free Speech campaign. Joel will be speaking on Sunday at the session The Fire Last Time: Eyewitness to the 1970s struggle in the USA.

Vashti Fox

Vashti is a member of the National Executive of Socialist Alternative. She became active in revolutionary politics in the anti-capitalist movement, was a founder of Students for Palestine in Melbourne and was one of the Max Brenner 19 (the activists arrested for their involvement in a pro-Palestine demonstration outside a shop that gives money to the Israeli military). Vashti is a contributor to Marxist Left Review and author of The story of Palestine: Empire, repression and resistance.

Omar Hassan

Omar Hassan is a Lebanese-Australian socialist, currently based in Melbourne. He is a contributing editor of the journal Marxist Left Review and a regular contributor to Red Flag newspaper.
